Faustino Mellerson: You need all the machines with sharing to have the exception for file and printer sharing set in the firewall, they all need to have the same workgroup name. If using Vista you need to go to the tcp/ip properties of you connection and click advanced. Then from the wins tab set always use netbios over tcp/ip and turn off use lmhosts.
Jackson Esmiol: None of these has seemed to help. Here is more info: The HOST and the laptop I'm trying to add to the network both have the same workgroup name. Both have WinXP. I used the network setup wizard with a flash drive, and followed all theinstructions, and yet the laptop still does not show up in the "Network Places". Certainly, both computers aren't supposed to have the same computer name, are they?
Emerita Sciandra: ensure that you've set up file/print sharing on al pc's on the network, and that each of the pc's your trying to network together have the same network name. Example: default is MSHOM! E. If you've changed the name on your host pc, then the rest of your pc's on the network should have the same. Good luck...Show more
Javier Holsonback: Make sure both computers are in the same workgroup. No, you can't have the computer name the same, but you need to have the same name in the workgroup. Find out the mac address for both computers by going into the command prompt and type in ipconfig /all. You should be able to see the mac address for your wireless ethernet, should look like this, OO:BB:AA:12.... and so on. Jot them down.Go into the router setup and select the wireless setup and do the mac filtering. Enter the mac address for each computer and their unique name. Save the changes and see what happens. Sometimes you just need to wait a couple minutes and go to network places.Hope this helps....Show more
Rodrigo Pezley: Sometimes you have to wait a while for the computers on your network to appear in the "Network Neighborhood" after enabling ! file and printer sharing.Try these things:1) if you haven't re! booted already since enabling that, close everything and reboot.2) Have you connected 2 other computers on the same network with no problem? On one of them that you know works, figure out the "IP Address" and then try to access it on your new computer. (If you're not sure how to do this, message me). Then bring up Internet Explorer and type in (without the quotes) "\IP ADDRESS"... where IP address is the number of the IP address you found....Show more
