Eli Trapeni: petrol powers a fuel cell which stores power that is why when stoped in traffic your car feels off
Becky Mosena: In general, hybrids do not use LPG or other "alternative" fuels, though every vehicle sold in the USA must be able to run on 10% ethanol (gasohol). If you have other questions about the workings of hybrids, feel free to e-mail.
Sabra Roers: All I know is that you have to plug it in your house at night lol. Silly thing is, you don't have to pay for gas as often as a regular car but you get the high electric bill to be in its place. I forgot what kind of fuel...
Christiane Cattano: I know, it's a little bit confusing at times, because engines using LPG and petrol are sometimes referred to as hybrid. Hybrid fuel engines to be exact. These cars have one combustion-engine modified to use two different types of fuel, so that you can switch between them. But the basic principle, to burn fuel and use this energy to move the car, is always ! the same. That's why there's only one engine, which can easily be modified to use 2 kinds of fuels. The term hybrid car more and more seems to be used to describe cars using 2 different engines, like internal combustion engine and electrical engine. There are different kinds of hybrid concepts, defined by the degree both motors are used together or even completely seperate. from another. The term hybrid therefore isn't really precise, as it describes a vast amount of totally different concepts. To make it even more confusing, a car using petrol and LPG and a hybrid combustion/electrical engine could be realized easily. The problem is, that the car would have a petrol tank, a gas tank and batteries, so that a lot of space is needed and the weight of the car is also increased. It's all a matter of definition. You can't tell what hybrid exactly means. Maybe in a few years clever advertising agencies will have coined a term that is used more consistently then....Show more
!Flor Lizardi: It's very simple:An electric engine and a fos! sil fuel engine work jointly to power the car.The concept allows for higher efficiency of both engine types, lowering overall fuel consumption. The fossil fuel engine serves also as a generator to top up the battery bank of the car, of which the electric engine runs at times. They run on petrol these days, but an LPG conversion would be possible, and diesels are being developed. There are currently two types available:One, as sold by Honda, has both engine types run concurrently at all times; the other, used by Toyota, is using the electric engine exclusively up to a certain speed, and then switches to the petrol engine at a higher speed....Show more
