I always figured I just might change things around and didn't want that strong killer in my dirt. I have lots of all types of gardens and finally I got tired of weeding so I put down plastic stuff the water goes through and then put cedar mulch over it. Then I didn't have to pull all those darn weeds and that horrible grass and it was easy to take care of. I just had to be careful when I mowed so that I didn't toss the mulch all over the place. Now . . .years down the line. . .the mulch has turned into dirt and I have things growing on top of the plastic so you do have to pull it up every bunch of years and replace the mulch but you pull up a bunch of good humus. Hope I spelled that right. Each year you have t! o add more so it gets a bit expensive. I threaten to pull it all up and put down lava rocks and did so at my apartments. That's even more work because you have to pick the leaves off the rocks. So that's the good and bad of mulch but sooooo much easier than all that stuff I had to pull over and over and over. I have a veggie garden and I throw my grass clippings on it to keep the weeds down and when crop is finished, I just turn it all in and start again. Weed killer. . .go to Home Depot or Lowes or the like and read the back of the spray stuff. I just bought a bunch of it on sale. . .season end stuff . . .except here the heat is just starting to tone down and so planting and gardening starts again. Weed killer kills plants so be very very careful where you spray and watch the wind.I have adapted my tools to match my area. . .not what I would have used further north. Don't be afraid to take something out of your kitchen. I have those el cheapo knives with the pron! g on the front that stays sharp forever. That is the best way! to pick up cactus leaves and great for trimming banana leaves and all sorts of things. That's my main tool. Here things grow and over grow quickly so my other favorite tool is the clipper and saw on the extension handle. I can keep whatever I can reach shorter and not heavy so that when the high winds come, they don't break. All of this to say, just get what works for you. If you buy regular clippers, get the ones that have the gears. They last longer. And get a sharpener so that you can keep everything sharp so you don't have to work harder. I've also gone to a ton of yard sales and picked up all sorts of shovels and tools and all sorts of stuff. I've found that the $6 shovel at KMart works as well as the $30 one at Home Depot. Tricks to looking good is decide what colors you want before you buy and then before you spend any money look up the plant online and see if it grows where you live and what it takes to keep it looking good. Also try to have textures of ! greens that bloom at different times so you always have something in bloom. Also keep in mind the sun. In the summer you want shade especially where the sun hits your house in the afternoon but in the winter you want that sun to warm your house. It makes a big difference. I have plants that don't lose their leaves but grow fast and I clip them for the winter and then they grow out and bloom in the spring. I can go on and on. . .so just drive around and see what you like. I don't have problems knocking on a door and asking what the plant is or if I can have a start. I'm just starting to learn how to grow orchids and have got my first pecan tree started and growing. I love to garden oh and important. . .if you mulch, leave room around the stems for it to breath. And mulch around your trees, makes trimming so much easier....Show more

answers 0:I have been in this profession on and off since 1999, totaling over 10 years. I want out. Dentistry ranks high as one of the most stressful jobs ever for a reason. If someone has been lucky enough to work with a dentist that isn't high strung and doesn't treat them like a lower class citizen consider yourselves lucky. I have worked with many and most (not all) were/are a nightmare. I'm currently top assistant, hold the highest seniority and all but bottom line; I'm not happy and it took a very serious toll on my mental well-being. I'm paid well hourly but that's the only positive.Here comes the scary part: I'm leaving to go back to being a Cosmetologist. I'm licensed so that's taken care of. Who leaves a medical profession to be a hair stylist? Nobody. I'm 38 years old and I am scared. I just want to be happy and only need about 25-27k a year to live co! mfortably. I have savings in the bank in case the first year I don't do so well as back up. Believe me I have all my ducks in a row and have been planning my "escape" for a while. It's seems most people don't have much faith in this decision. I don't blame them but I am determined. Am I crazy for doing this? This feels so beneath me but maybe my Doc's arrogance has rubbed off. Thoughts?(I live in the midwest in case anyone is wondering.)...Show moreanswers 1:I would say that you have been in this profession for a very long time and know the ins and outs. You obviously are burnt out from this profession and it has impacted your quality of life. We spend a lot of time at work....8 hours a day. That is a long time weekly and monthly to feel discontent with what you do. We only have one life.....and stress definitely has a physical impact on our lives. It can even impact our health. At the end of the day if you are miserable at work......then to me, 8 hours of misery isn't worth it. It probably has impacted your off time too so it has had an impact on your leisure time as well, because you probably can't help from thinking about how horrible things are for you at work.You wouldn't want to end up with a stress related physical condition from continuing to work in a field that hasn't been on your best side. I say go for the cosmetology.......it could work out really well and you may love it...BUT you will never know unless you take this new endeavor in your life. They are not as busy as they were years ago. It got so slow that they don't have a ton of other stylists anymore. Just the 2 of them and 1 or 2 part time employees and one receptionist. Bad idea to go from having money, dental care, and health insurance to having maybe an hourly wage or living off of tips with possibly NO health ! insurance.If you dislike the dentist just apply elsewhere! Or become an orthodontic assistant! You work more one on one with the patient and the job isn't as difficult as being a general practice dental assistant. They came and tore out all of my old landscape and shrubs that alot of snakes were hiding in. Then they tore out all of my old grass and then they re-sodded it with like 4 pallets of St Augustine grass. They made me a new flowerbed and mulched it with black mulch. It looks like a whole new house just because they did that and they even trimmed my huge tree in the front yard. I am thinking of having them do an irrigation system now that I see how good they are. I checked around and they are like the cheapest company. It is only $125 per pallet with free delivery and installation. I thought about just buying the sod myself, but it is like $100 per pallet and then I would have to try and put it down myself. So for only $25 more per pallet, they are doing all of that hard work. Someone else on yahoo recommended them to me and I am glad th! ey did, because they were very friendly and efficient and I would suggest you call them. Charline Granes: No it is not safe to use with pacman frogs. The particles in that substrate are too chunky. There is a risk of impaction if the frog accidentally swallows some. Frogs are very clumsy eaters, and chances of them swallowing it are high. The substrate that you want to buy for them is Coco-Fiber. Coco-Fiber usually comes in dried bricks that you soak in water. It is made out of pulverized coconut shells, and basically looks like dirt. This substrate is safe to use with all types of amphibians, and it will pass though their digestive tract safely should it be accidentally swallowed.I've posted a link below to Exoterras line, they call it "Plantation Soil":You can also buy this at any garden center (it won't be by exoterra though), and most DIY places that sell gardening supplies, like Home Depot. It is much cheaper to buy it this way.The other safe alternative to Coco-Fiber in use with frogs is "Peat Moss". This is ground up moss, that also looks like! dirt. You will find this product at any garden center, or DIY places that sell gardening supplies. You just have to read the label carefully to make sure that there isn't any extra fertilizers or chemicals added to it. p>Le muflier est une plante vivace parfumée originaire de la Méditerranée. Ses fleurs colorées ressemblent à des bouches ouvertes. Les mufliers commencent à partir de graines à l’intérieur et sont plantés juste avant le dernier gel de l’année. Ils poussent mieux dans les régions plus fraîches et ont tendance à mourir lorsque le temps devient chaud.

Pincez l’extrémité des tiges lorsque les semis ont six feuilles. Le fait de pincer l’extrémité des tiges favorise la croissance d’un plus grand nombre de fleurs. Vous pouvez aussi le faire avec des semis achetés en magasin. Il suffit de s’assurer que les plantules ont six feuilles avant de les pincer, sinon, les plantes ne seront peut-être pas encore assez fortes pour résister au pincement.

Achetez des graines de muflier. Les mufliers mufliers poussent aussi épais que des épi! s de un à trois pieds de haut ornés de fleurs colorées. Différentes variétés produisent des fleurs de différentes couleurs, alors choisissez celle qui s’harmonise le mieux avec la palette de couleurs de votre jardin de fleurs. Voici quelques bons choix :

Ramassez les graines. Au fur et à mesure que les plantes mûrissent, des gousses de graines se forment près de la base des tiges. Attachez un sac brun par-dessus les gousses et laissez-les tomber naturellement dans les sacs. Vous pouvez sécher les graines et les planter l’année prochaine.

Préparer le lit de plantation extérieur. Les mufliers poussent mieux dans les températures fraîches du début du printemps, vous devrez donc préparer le lit de planta! tion avant le dernier gel de l’année. Ils ont besoin d’un! plein soleil et poussent bien dans la plupart des sols neutres dont le pH est compris entre 6,2 et 7. Amender le sol avec de la matière organique, comme des feuilles compostées, pour que les mufliers produisent des fleurs durables.

Espacer les plantules d’au moins 1 pied (0,30 m) les unes des autres pour prévenir les maladies. Les mufliers sont vulnérables à la rouille, à la pourriture et à la moisissure. Cet espacement assurera une bonne circulation d’air entre chaque plante pour que ces problèmes ne se développent pas. Arrosez-les immédiatement après la plantation.

Plantez les semis autour de la date de la dernière gelée. Les mufliers peuvent résister à une gelée ou deux, de sorte que le moment n’a pas besoin d’être exact.

Commencez à semer à l’intérieur six à huit semaines avant le dernier gel. Les mufliers sont plus faciles à cultiver à partir de graines à l’intérieur au début du printemps. Préparer les pots de s! emis avec le substrat de semis (plutôt qu’avec de la terre de rempotage ordinaire). Répartir les graines sur la surface du substrat et presser légèrement. Gardez-les dans une fenêtre chaude et ensoleillée. Veillez à ce que le support reste uniformément humide.

N’arrosez que lorsque le sol est sec. Un arrosage excessif provoquera la formation de moisissures sur la plante, alors attendez que le sol soit un peu sec avant d’arroser vos mufliers. Lorsque vous arrosez, arrosez près de la couronne des plantes, plutôt que d’arroser par le haut.

Nourrissez les plantules jusqu’à ce qu’elles soient prêtes à être plantées. Passez les six à huit semaines avant le dernier gel pour garder les plants bien arrosés et au chaud. Lorsque les graines germent et que les semis germent et produisent des feuilles, les semis sont assez forts pour être transplantés à l’extérieur.

Déchiqueter le lit de plantation lorsque le temps se réchauffe. Uti! lisez un paillis organique pour couvrir la zone autour des racines des ! mufliers. Cela gardera le système racinaire au frais lorsque le temps commencera à être chaud et devrait aider vos mufliers à durer plus longtemps avant qu’ils ne commencent à mourir sous la chaleur de l’été.

Tête morte les tiges. Lorsque vous voyez des fleurs qui ont déjà fleuri, commencez à flétrir, pincez-les des tiges du muflier. Ceci encouragera plus de fleurs à fleurir et gardera les plantes en bonne santé.
